'The Right Stuff' : An Examination of Masculinity in Literature

Abstract

A short examination of how models of masculinity are portrayed in literature; from the sensitive young Werther to the uber-masculine Chuck Yeager. This paper also examines the models of masculinity presented in the author’s novel, The Lively, and how the characters in the novel fit into the examined lineage of gender images.
