Abstract

The Mummers Unconvention held in Bath, UK, in November 2011 was an early attempt to bring together groups of mummers and academics to share their performances, papers, experiences, ideas and perspectives.  This brief paper indicates the significance of the event in opening up dialogue around this broad performance form. In particular the paper asks what distinctive contribution performance studies might bring to earlier dramatic, historic and folkloristic considerations.
